It’s a finely-detailed, sharply-observed drama from a team that made a documentary - “Silo: Edge of the Real World” - that provided their research. It’s a common occurrence wherever grain is farmed, weary old men or unwary young ones make one mistake, or a series of them, and often-futile hopes of help are the nearest volunteer fire department or another one in the next town over. “Silo” is a quietly gripping “trouble in farm country” thriller wrapped in tragedy, a story of a “grain entrapment” in a corn storage silo. “Everybody knows everybody” is a double-edged sword, as people grow up with each other, remember failures and expectations harden into stone.Īnd a shrinking, aging workforce, beyond the reach of or exempted from OSHA protection, wrestles with bigger and more complex machines as “scale” becomes the only way to survive. Ryan try activating the lever that will save Anna and Mitch Ryan considers pulling the lever, but can't bring himself to do it. Seconds later, Ryan watches as grain begins to pour into the silo, trapping Anna and Mitch. When the message ends, the screens show security footage, so Ryan could see Anna and Mitch, and vice versa. Ryan decides to sever his leg in order to save Mitch and Anna Mitch presses play on the remote and both TVs display a mechanical ventriloquist puppet telling them that their past mistakes can cost them their lives, but Ryan can save them. However, when they retrieve the remote the door shuts, trapping them. Anna and Mitch also see a TV in their room. When Anna and Mitch enter the room, Ryan notices that there is a small screen lighting up in the same place where Ryan's foot is tied. The lights go out and a small room with the door open is illuminated. Chronologically, it is the fourth trap to have ever occurred.Īfter Ryan is trapped in the Leg Wires, Anna and Mitch decide to look for a way out.
